Hi lovely! Welcome back to my blog. (lol I’m practicing for YouTube). How do you feel today?

Well, you already know what day of the week it is! Wednesday!

I talked about colours in my last blog post (click here to read if you missed it) and I got. amazing comments from you all. The comment that inspired this post was this.

Here she talked about how she finds it hard to match colours hence, she plays it safe by wearing neutrals. Who knows, my next post might make her more confident wearing other colours asides neutrals.

First of all, what are neutrals? Basically neutrals are colors that go with virtually everything. Any color that doesn’t appear on the traditional color wheel is a neutral (but there is an exception to this).

The color wheel

Neutrals are an essential part of every wardrobe. They should be the foundation of your closet. Having neutrals make styling your pieces easier especially when you wear them well. Anybody can wear neutral but the difference between a great look and a regular one depends on how you style it.

Do not make your outfit look chaotic by putting too much together; I mean pairing colors wrongly.

I would advise a maximum of two neutrals while combining colors except you are a fashionista or edgy and are sure you would kill the look. Asides that, play it safe and wear a maximum of two neutrals.

What exactly are the neutral colors? They are black, white, brown, grey and khaki. Also, tints and shades of these colors are neutrals.

Tips for styling neutrals

1. Combine Tones: 1. If you are going for an all-neutral look like what I have here then you should try mixing/combining tones of the same neutral color. It gives a chick, super stylish look when done right. Here I worked with tones of brown.

My first time styling a bucket hat

2. Accessorize:1. the importance of accessories cannot be overemphasized. Like I said here, they elevate your look from 0 to 100. It can be either bold or subtle accessories depending on the look you want to achieve. In these pictures, I chose simple, minimalist rings and necklace to complete my look.

3. Add pattern: 1. A little bit of pattern sure does elevate your all-neutral look. I chose a subtly patterned crop top and styled as a waistcoat. The pattern added even more substance to my look. You should try this.

4. Add texture: A little bit of texture elevates your look and works hand in hand with a little bit of pattern. The texture in my outfit is from this crop top.

I’ve been talking about neutrals and my outfit that I almost forgot to talk about this beautiful piece of architecture behind me.

It is the Mapo hall, a neoclassical architecture located on the Mapo hill in Ibadan. It is a result of early British influence in the administration of Ibadan as a part of the Oyo empire. It is located on the Mapo hill close to the old Alaafin of Oyo palace. Mapo hall in its days used to be a place where top people in Oyo met to discuss the affairs of the town. It also housed prison cells where tax evaders were kept in the 80s and early 90s.

Second edit, same picture because i'm indecisive

The hall is now being used for conferences and has a mini-museum where relics are stored. If you are visiting Ibadan, you should definitely add this beautiful house of history and piece of architecture to your list.

Currently listening to Old town road by Lil Nas because that’s the complete mood and vibe I get form this outfit and pictures.

What major issue do you usually have with wearing neutrals or do you even have any issue at all with colors?

Let me know!

See you next Wednesday!

I don’t have issues with neutral colors but I do sometimes with bold colors. I like to look subtle mostly but I want to try bold colors more often. I can’t wait to read something on bold and bright colors by you.

Naturally I love playing with colours. Neutrals are not really my thing. As a law student I am compelled to stick to the colours, white and black. I hated it at first but I discovered that neutrals are so beautiful and amazing with pops of other colours. I accessorise with colourful jewelry pieces, bags and shoes.
